It's. freaking. snowing.
After vetoing a bipartisan law to give health insurance to millions of Americans, mostly children:
"'Poor kids first,' Bush said. 'Secondly, I believe in private medicine, not the federal government running the health care system.'"
WHAT THE FUCK??!!
What the living hell is he thinking?! Yet another mind-boggling case of "do they even listen to themselves?"
I swear to the gods, I could literally slap someone right now. Hard. Or commit serious property dammage. (Yeah, that might sound kind of wimpy, but coming from me, it's like saying I could stab someone in the neck with an icepick.)
Furious? Outraged? Ready to slash the tires of the next Hummer with a "W" sticker? If not, go here for the rest of the story.
my gods, when will it stop? when will people GET it?

That's 'cause it's a non-vital organ. As amply illustrated by this article: Bush: No Deal On Children's Health Plan (note: this site requires a sign-in. I just lie to them, myself...)
Here's a couple choice quotes:
"President Bush yesterday rejected entreaties by his Republican allies that he compromise with Democrats on legislation to renew a popular program that provides health coverage to poor children, saying that expanding the program would enlarge the role of the federal government at the expense of private insurance."
- And the problem with this is...?
****
Bush: "'And I think it's going to be very important for our allies on Capitol Hill to hear a strong, clear message from me that expansion of government in lieu of making the necessary changes to encourage a consumer-based system is not acceptable.'"
- Pay no attention to the Department of Homeland Security behind the curtain.
****
"Bush said he is opposed to a bipartisan legislation that would allow the Food and Drug Administration to regulate the manufacturing, marketing and sale of tobacco products, which could lead to stronger warning labels and limits on nicotine and other ingredients.
'We've always said that nicotine is not a drug to be regulated under FDA,' Bush said.
[Mike] Leavitt [Secretary of Health and Human Services] added that one danger is that the FDA could be seen as giving its stamp of approval to a product 'that will never be safe.'" Oh, yes!
- That's it! The power of the Tobacco Lobby has nothing to do with it!

Regarding the Virginia Tech Shooting:
"A White House spokesman said President Bush was horrified by the rampage and offered his prayers to the victims and the people of Virginia.
'The president believes that there is a right for people to bear arms, but that all laws must be followed,' spokeswoman Dana Perino said."
Wow, feel the love! Feel the compassion! Feel the...pandering to campaign supporters.
I'm sure the NRA will be relieved to know that yet another public mass shooting won't affect their right to buy weapons that were designed expressly to kill human beings.

Okay, Benedict XVI was being, if nothing else, pretty stupid when he quoted a 14th century (and the relevance is...?) Emperor as saying that Mohammed brought nothing new to the world except that which was "only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." Wow. Insentive, impolitic, and really badly timed. What was he thinking?
Not surprisingly, the Islamic world jumped all over him with both feet. One can understand Muslims being angry at a description of their religion as "evil and inhuman," even if Bennie didn't express an opinion on the quote per se. Would piss me off. But doesn't anyone see the irony in this response, made by Pakistan's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam?
"Anyone who describes Islam[,] as a religion[,] as intolerant encourages violence."
And, of course, sadly true.
This just reaffirms my distrust of -- and exasperation with -- exclusivist monotheism, fundamentalism, and dogma, no matter what the god. GET OVER YOURSELVES, PEOPLE!!!

The weather sucks here, though I managed to get the house down to 76° downstairs and 78° upstairs last night. Fuck. Well, let's hope it really is only going to get to 92° today. The forcast for Sunday had been for 97°, but all the way back from Aleta's (around 3pm), the car said it was 106°. It was 104° or so according to the thermometer on the porch when I got home. I opened the upstairs up at 11pm last night and the downstairs at midnight. I slept on the couch. I swear, if it's over a hundred again today, I'm stuffing the cats in their crates and going to a hotel.
Slept awful last night, big surprise. I think I need to go to the store before it hits 90° (I refuse to drive to New Seasons and back!), then I shall probably try to sleep some more. doug's coming over tonight, but I fear I'm just going to be an unpleasant bitch who's just going to want to sit in her own room and play (you guessed it) solitaire. Doug, please be patient. I may not even feel like talking or anything.
I can't see the gym until this weather breaks. Besides the pollution advisory, I just don't know if I have enough energy to drive the two miles and back.
Fleagh. Must go to store. Get TP and milk (gods, that organic milk I got at WINCO is gross). Maybe some broccoli. 'then come home and sleep. didn't I already say that?
wishing y'all better weather...

I know it ain't the web, 'cause I can go lots of places, including here. But I CANNOT log in to yahoo OR Comcast. Both. How fucking annoying. Especially, since I've not checked my mail since Friday because of the Trip South, and I have things to catch up on and things to get out. Fuckula!
Hope it's back tomorrow. I'm also behind on my comics.
Add to this that my period started today, so I'll be in "bleeding like a stuck pig" mode (and probably "punji sticks to the ovaries" mode) when I get my wisdom teeth out Thursday. Hot damn.
RL folks: If you need me, call me, 'cause I can't get no e-mail right now. >:-O

Don't blame Black Jack! They've made sure everything is legal, above-board, and precisely defined, so don't go whining to the city administration, perv. Black Jack says that a family must be related by blood or marriage, and that's that.
Child welfare? Qu'est que se?
